Also known as “Hot Yoga,” Bikram is practiced in a room heated to 105 degrees. The thinking is this will increase flexibility and detoxification. It is a very intense practice and does come with a few warnings: Always leave the room if you feel overheated, rest when you feel the need to, and always replace lost fluids immediately afterwards.
Ashtanga is a more fast-paced, vigorous and physically challenging style of yoga. If you’re looking for a practice that is more aggressive and has less calming properties, this may be for you.
In these classes, there is a great focus on alignment in postures. Moving slowly, Iyengar students hold precisely aligned poses for extended periods of time, often utilizing straps, blocks, cushions and blankets.
